Too small, too crooked, too misshapen - every year, tons of food end up in the trash before they even make it to the plate. The resources involved, such as water, energy and even labor, also literally end up in the garbage can. The same applies to the CO2 emissions released during production. If food ends up in the garbage can, it was also produced for nothing.

We as consumers throw an estimated 75 kg of food in the garbage can each year. Worldwide, every 3rd food item ends up directly in the trash.

In 2014, it all started in a kitchen in Berlin, with the rescue of fruit. Fruit 2nd choice became fruit paper made from 100% fruit. After the successful start in the market and expansion of the team, the brands DÖRRWERK and RETTERGUT were founded. Meanwhile, the 11-member team offers a varied assortment. According to their own information, they have already saved over 100,000 kg of vegetables in this way. Incidentally, as recently as the end of May 2021, RETTERGUT won the "Too good for the garbage can" award from the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture in the "Agriculture and Production" category.

"Save Food, Protect Climate."

Rettergut starts where others sort out. They save fruit and vegetables from the garbage can and conjure up delicious new products from them, such as the "Tomato & Herbs" or "Paprika Pikant" spread. All of this is made from vegetables that would otherwise not find their way onto our plates because they are sorted out due to harvest surpluses or because they are "crooked" and do not meet our "norm" as consumers.

Eat chocolate and become a savior

In addition to the spicy spreads, there is also the delicious mixschokolade from RETTERGUT. The mixschokolade is produced from 100% rescued chocolate. In the chocolate production process, when the types of chocolate are changed, the production line is "cleaned" with chocolate. Normally this chocolate, which is of perfect quality, is discarded. RETTERGUT has developed a really great chocolate bar from it - the mixschokolade bar. Eat chocolate and become a savior.

Food appreciation

RETTERGUT has been supporting the "GemüseAckerdemien", an educational program that aims to teach children to appreciate our food.
